Case Study: Make Money with a Proxy - Getting started
July 8, 2008 |
If you arent familiar with what a proxy is used for, here is a little info. The most popular use of a proxy are kids at school trying to access a site like myspace. There are many sites that schools, colleges, and businesses dont allow its users to visit for one reason or another. Using a proxy is the quickest and easiest way to get around the firewall or filter that is blocking these people from getting to myspace. We are building a proxy to cater to these people behind firewalls.
I started out today with picking out a domain name for my new proxy. Picking out a domain name for a proxy can be very simple, but you should really put some though into it. Depending on your final goal of the proxy site, there are a couple things to keep in mind.
I decided I would try to get the proxy up and going, do a little SEO for on it, and experiment with a couple different ways of monetizing the proxy.
- Using a domain name containing “proxy” can get your site blocked easily.
- Keep the name short and easy to memorize. If the name is easy to memorize, its likely they will use it again.
- Also keep the domain name easy to spell.
- Use a dot com top level domain. Easies to remember, and search engines like dot com the best.
Keeping these in mind, I chose fbuster.com, short for firewall buster. I think this name will be easy to remember and spell, and not get blocked very quick, as it doesn’t contain the name proxy within it.
I used 1and1 to register my domain. I still believe they are about the cheapest out there, and have not had problems with their service.
I will be using Techentrance to host the proxy on. Tech entrance runs many proxies, and has optimized their servers to run proxies very well.
Thats all for today. Check back tomorrow for the next step, setting up the proxy. Come back soon to learn more about making money online.
